RESUMO

Objetivo: verificar se existe uma associação entre a utilização de medicação antidepressiva e a sobrevivência de implantes dentais. Material e métodos: foi utilizada a base de dados MEDLINE (PubMed), sendo os critérios de inclusão apenas artigos em inglês entre os anos de 2010 e 2019, que abordavam a associação da utilização de medicação antidepressiva com o impacto na osseointegração de implantes utilizando os seguintes descritores: “implant loss”; “implant failure”; “osseointegration”; “antidepressive”; “antidepressant”. Revisões da literatura foram excluídas da amostra. Resultados: a busca bibliográfica resultou em 38 artigos sobre o tema, que, após a aplicação dos critérios de inclusão e exclusão, sete trabalhos foram incluídos para análise nessa revisão. Seis coortes retrospectivos e um estudo experimental em animais foram analisados por essa revisão. Todos os trabalhos apresentaram qualidade metodológica alta pela escala Newcasttle-Ottawa. Conclusão: parece existir uma associação negativa entre a utilização de antidepressivos, principalmente os inibidores seletivos da recaptação de serotonina e a falha de implantes dentais, aumentando a taxa de insucesso. O cirurgião-dentista deve estar atento para essa relação, com o propósito de buscar a maior previsibilidade no tratamento com implantes dentais.

ABSTRACT

Objective: verify if there is an association between the use of antidepressant medication and the survival of dental implants. Material and methods: the MEDLINE database (PubMed) was used, with the inclusion criteria being only articles in English published between the years 2010 to 2019, which addressed the association of the use of antidepressant medication and the impact on the osseointegration of implants using the following descriptors: “implant loss”; “implant failure”; “osseointegration”; “antidepressive”; “antidepressant”. Literature reviews were excluded from the sample. Results: the bibliographic search resulted in 38 articles about the theme, which after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, seven papers were included for analysis in this review. Six retrospective cohorts and one experimental animal study were analyzed by this review. All papers showed high methodological quality using the Newcasttle-Ottawa scale. Conclusion: there seems to be a negative association between the use of antidepressants, especially the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors and the failure of dental implants, increasing the failure rate. The dentist must be aware of this relationship, with the purpose of seeking greater predictability in the treatment with dental implants.
